5 Things Studio Agnew Is: Creating a Place Where Artists Can Learn, Explore, and Belong
From lifelong creativity to a new community art studio, Studio Agnew was created to help artists of all ages discover confidence, curiosity, and the joy of making.

The doors are open… and it has already been filled with smiles.
After months of dreaming, planning, and preparing, Studio Agnew is finally welcoming artists through the doors. And seeing those first moments of excitement has been the most rewarding part.
It's the smile when someone picks up a new material. The excitement of trying something they've never done before. The confidence that comes from creating something they are proud of.
That is what Studio Agnew is all about.
It's not just about the supplies on the shelves or the artwork on the walls. It's about the people, the process, the exploration, and the joy of making something with your own hands.
After seeing the excitement, curiosity, and smiles filling the studio, I wanted to share what Studio Agnew is truly about.
1. Studio Agnew is a place to learn art skills.
One of the things I have heard repeatedly during these first weeks is:
"I want to learn how to draw."
"I want to understand watercolor."
"I've always wanted to paint."
"I just don't know where to start."
I love hearing those words because they remind me that people aren't just looking for an activity—they genuinely want to learn.
Art is a skill that can be learned. It isn't about being naturally talented or creating something perfect on the first try. It's about learning the foundations, practicing techniques, experimenting with materials, and developing confidence along the way.
Whether it's drawing from observation, understanding color theory, exploring watercolor, acrylic painting, mixed media, or trying a new creative process, Studio Agnew is designed to help artists grow at their own pace.
2. Studio Agnew is a place to explore.
There is no one right way to make art.
A blank page can become anything. A simple idea can turn into something unexpected. Sometimes the "mistake" you didn't plan becomes your favorite part of the piece.
My role as an instructor is to provide guidance while encouraging curiosity, experimentation, and personal expression. Every artist brings their own ideas, experiences, and perspective, and that's what makes creating together so inspiring.
3. Studio Agnew is a place where artists of all ages can grow.
Creativity doesn't have an age limit.
The Young Artist Studio was created for students ages 10–18 who want to explore art beyond a one-time project. It's a place where young artists can build strong foundations, experiment with different mediums, and develop their own creative voice through independent exploration with guidance and instruction.
This program is especially meaningful to me because it reflects how my own artistic journey began. At six years old, I started taking oil painting classes, and those early lessons sparked a lifelong love of creating. They laid the foundation for who I would become as an artist, educator, and ultimately the founder of Studio Agnew.
My hope is to give young artists that same opportunity—to discover the joy of creating, build confidence in their abilities, and see where their creativity can take them.
And Studio Agnew isn't just for young artists. Whether you're picking up a paintbrush for the first time, returning to art after many years, or continuing to build your skills, there is always room to learn, grow, and create.
4. Studio Agnew is a place to create together.
Some of the best memories are made when we're creating alongside other people.
As we head into a new school year, I wanted to offer something that brings artists, friends, and families together for a fun, hands-on creative experience.
Join us for Tie-Dye Day at Studio Agnew on Saturday, August 8, where artists ages 10 and up can design their own wearable work of art. Whether you're a student looking for a fun shirt to wear during the school year, a parent creating alongside your child, or an adult who simply loves making things, everyone is welcome.
Participants will experiment with color, patterns, and design while creating a one-of-a-kind T-shirt that's completely their own. No two shirts will ever be alike—and that's exactly what makes them special.

5. Studio Agnew is a place where people belong.
When I imagined Studio Agnew, I hoped it would become a place where people felt comfortable trying something new.
After only one week, I'm already seeing that happen.
Every smile, every question, every finished painting, and every "I didn't know I could do that" reminds me why I opened these doors.
Thank you to everyone who has attended a class, shared kind words, supported this new chapter, or simply stopped by to see what Studio Agnew is becoming.
