A Quick Update for Families

I know some families have been waiting for news about Step Up For Students. I’ve been working through the approval process and have had a few bumps along the way. I’m happy to say that reimbursement is available, and I’m hoping to have direct deposit available any day now!

Thank you to the families who have been patient while I worked through the process. I’ll share an update as soon as everything is officially in place.

Learn Art. Make Art. Belong.

My alma mater recently featured Studio Agnew in its alumni newsletter, sharing the story of how the studio grew from mobile workshops into a permanent creative space in Howey-in-the-Hills. Seeing the studio I built highlighted by the college where I studied art and design was a pretty special full-circle moment.

It also got me thinking about how much of my own life has been about learning.

From studying graphic design to working with Walt Disney Imagineering, creating illustrations and children's books, building my design business, and now running Studio Agnew, every chapter has taught me something new. And I’m still learning.

That’s something I hope to bring into the studio, too. You don’t have to consider yourself an artist to keep learning and creating. You can be curious. You can try something completely outside your comfort zone. You can be a beginner.

Maybe you’ve always wanted to learn watercolor. Maybe you’re curious about printmaking or cyanotypes. Maybe you simply want a couple of hours to make something with your hands.

There’s value in trying something new just because you want to.

A Place for Young Artists to Explore

I’m especially excited about continuing to grow Young Artist Studio, an after-school program for ages 10–18. It’s a creative space where young artists can explore different mediums, develop their artistic skills and fundamentals, follow their own ideas, and spend time creating alongside other young artists.

Some students may simply love making art. Others may be curious about different mediums and want to see what they enjoy. And for students considering pursuing art in college, I can also help with portfolio development and reviews.

The goal isn’t for everyone to create the same project. It’s about helping young artists become more confident, curious, and open-minded about their own creativity.

What’s Coming This Fall

There are still two weeks left in the August calendar, with classes continuing through August 30. Behind the scenes, I’ve been working on the September schedule, and I’m excited to bring a little more rhythm and routine to the studio.

September will have dedicated days for different mediums—think Watercolor Mondays, Printmaking Thursdays, and more—so it will be easier to find a class that fits your interests and build a creative routine.

Before we get to September, there’s another exciting milestone coming up: the Town of Howey-in-the-Hills is hosting Studio Agnew’s ribbon cutting on Thursday, August 20 at 10:30 AM. Everyone is welcome to join us for this special celebration. I’d love to see familiar faces, meet new neighbors, and celebrate this new chapter for Studio Agnew with the community.

I’m also working on expanding creative parties and private celebrations at Studio Agnew, giving groups another way to gather, create, and celebrate together.

And I’m already thinking about fall for our Saturday, September 12 Fairy Doors Workshop. I’ve been collecting fallen seasonal nature elements for inspiration, and I’m excited to see how those textures, colors, and little treasures find their way into our fall fairy doors.
