How a Pop-Up Card Workshop Brought an Entire Room to Life
Sharing the joy, laughter, and creativity from a recent workshop—plus a fall-inspired DIY pop-up card template to try at home.

An afternoon set, prepped, and ready to create—I had the joy of teaching a pop-up card workshop to a group of women who, to my surprise, were overflowing with eagerness to create, connect, and share smiles. Even more, they were thrilled to see their art space come alive again.
From the moment they stepped through the door, the excitement was contagious. With walkers and carts in tow, the women practically raced to their seats, exclaiming, “What are we making today? I’m so excited!” Many shared how much they’d missed having creative classes right in their community. It was clear—they were ready to dive in, and I was ready to guide them.
A Room Awakened
It had been a long time since I taught a class, and this was my first with 55+ participants. When I walked into their art activity room, it had been quiet and untouched for nearly a year—a beautiful, inspiring space that many would dream of having. I couldn't believe it! By the end of the afternoon, it was filled with chatter, laughter, and the happy rustle of colorful paper being folded and cut. A space once dormant had come alive again with creativity.
Smiles, Laughter, and Paper Magic
The women were craving something hands-on, something joyful. As we crafted pop-up cards together, I watched their faces light up—smiles stretched across the room, and shoulders relaxed with every fold and cut. Some hadn’t touched a creative project in years, yet they dove in with childlike enthusiasm. To add an extra touch of fun, I gave everyone a simple bookmark to personalize—a small reminder that creativity can be tucked into even the tiniest corners of life.
For me, it was proof that art doesn’t need to be complicated to be powerful. Just one class, a handful of materials, and a willingness to try something new brought so much happiness into that afternoon. It was more than crafting—it was connection. A reminder that creativity doesn’t just fill a room, it awakens the people in it.
