Clearing space, reflecting on growth, and choosing what truly belongs in the days to come.

It Starts With A Blank Canvas.

The image above shows a room I painted with white walls—empty, quiet, and full of possibility. A blank canvas. A space that represents removing, decluttering, letting go, and reflecting on what was, while making room for what’s next.

My art business has grown in so many exciting ways, but it has also come with deep learning, big decisions, and moments of pause. Growth isn’t just about doing more—it’s about choosing wisely. What to keep. What to release. What truly deserves space.

A fresh coat of paint goes a long way, in more ways than one. It can transform a room, shift a mood, spark new ideas, and redefine how a space feels. As I painted this room and felt the new year approaching, my thoughts kept returning to one question: What will 2026 bring?

Life is beautifully unknown. But standing in that empty room reminded me of something powerful—I get to choose what fills it. More or less. Color or calm. Bold pieces or open space. The same way we choose how we fill our days, our calendars, and our creative lives.

We’re each given 365 blank squares every year. And my hope is that you intentionally mark yours with what brings you joy, inspiration, and meaning.

With that in mind, here are 10 ways artists and creative minds can begin the year and start filling their blank canvas with intention.

1. Start by Clearing the Space

Before adding anything new, remove what no longer fits—unfinished projects you’ve outgrown, creative obligations that feel heavy, or physical clutter that distracts you. Clearing space is an act of respect for your creativity.

2. Choose How You Want the Year to Feel

Instead of focusing only on goals, focus on feeling. Calm. Curious. Bold. Playful. Grounded. Let that feeling guide your decisions the same way paint color sets the tone of a room.

3. Redefine What Growth Means to You

More work doesn’t always mean better work. This year might be about refinement, alignment, or sustainability rather than expansion. Growth can be quieter—and still powerful.

4. Design Your Calendar Like a Creative Tool

Your calendar is not just for appointments; it’s a canvas. Leave white space. Schedule creative time, rest, and inspiration. Protect your energy as intentionally as you protect deadlines.

5. Create Before You Consume

Begin your day by making something before emails, social media, or outside noise. Even ten minutes of creation keeps your voice at the center of your work.

6. Revisit Your “Why”

As businesses grow, it’s easy to drift from why you started. Take time to reflect on what excites you, what stories you want to tell, and who you want to serve. Let that clarity guide the year ahead.

7. Invest in One Meaningful Upgrade

Choose one thing—education, tools, mentorship, or space—that elevates your creativity or workflow. A thoughtful investment can create a ripple effect throughout the year.

8. Make Room for Play

Not everything has to be shared, sold, or perfected. Create something just for fun. Play fuels innovation and often leads to unexpected breakthroughs.

9. Reflect on Last Year’s Lessons

Before rushing forward, acknowledge what the past year taught you—about boundaries, confidence, resilience, and growth. Reflection turns experience into wisdom.

10. Remember That You Get to Choose

A blank canvas can feel intimidating—but it’s also freeing. You get to decide what stays minimal, what becomes bold, and what evolves over time. Intention gives direction to the unknown.

Final Thoughts

As the year begins, may you approach it like an artist—with curiosity, courage, and trust in your vision. Whether your canvas fills quickly or slowly, may it reflect what truly matters to you.

Here’s to a year of thoughtful creation, meaningful choices, and spaces—both physical and creative—that feel like home.
