My recent interview with Bold Journey Magazine asked a powerful question:
Where Do You Get Your Resilience From?
It’s one of those questions that stays with you — especially during the holiday season. This time of year is full, busy, joyful, overwhelming, and sometimes all of those things at once. We’ve all heard someone say (or quietly said ourselves), “I just need to get through the holidays.”
When I really think about it, even that simple phrase is a form of resilience. Maybe a tired version of it — but resilience nonetheless. We keep going, show up, and navigate whatever comes our way because, deep down, we trust ourselves.
Resilience, for me, isn’t always loud or heroic. Sometimes it’s subtle. It’s the power of not overthinking and just experiencing what will happen, the ability to navigate your journey toward what you truly want, and the courage to stay true to yourself. It’s choosing curiosity over fear, daring to try again, and stepping forward even when the path is uncertain.
Here are 5 quick ideas to keep in mind as you approach challenges, creativity, and the new year:
1. Embrace curiosity first.
Try new things, explore different paths, and see what surprises you. Even small experiments can spark growth and reveal unexpected opportunities.
2. Take action, not perfection.
Resilience isn’t about having all the answers. It’s about showing up, creating, and moving forward — even if things aren’t perfect.
3. Trust yourself.
You know more than you think. Listen to your instincts, honor your values, and let your own judgment guide your journey.
4. Learn from setbacks.
Every challenge, every “failure,” is a stepping stone. Ask yourself what it’s teaching you and how it can shape your next step.
5. Keep creating.
Whether it’s art, design, writing, or simply solving problems in new ways, creative action strengthens your resilience and keeps your energy alive.
