Why Imagination Was Never Taught—And How It Becomes Something Powerful
A journey into the natural creativity we’re born with—and how to turn it into something meaningful, expressive, and real.

As long as I can remember, my mind has always been full of imagination.
I didn’t need much to create something—just a few leftover materials, a quiet moment, and suddenly my mind would take over. What started as something simple would turn into an idea, a story, or something entirely new.
No one ever taught me how to “be creative.”
There were no instructions for how to see something that didn’t exist yet, or how to turn a feeling into something visual. It just came naturally, like my mind was always a few steps ahead, imagining what could be.
It was just… there. And for a long time, I wondered—is that normal?
The Truth About Imagination
What I’ve come to understand is this: Imagination isn’t something we’re taught.
It’s something we’re born with.
Every child has it. You can see it in the way they play, explore, and create entire worlds out of nothing. But as we grow up, many of us are guided toward structure, logic, and “right answers.” Slowly, that natural imagination gets quieter.
But not always.
Some of us hold onto it.
Some of us keep using it.
And eventually, it becomes part of how we see the world.
When Imagination Becomes a Strength
Having a strong imagination isn’t just about being “creative.” It’s about:
Seeing possibilities before they exist
Turning feelings into visuals
Creating experiences, not just objects
Connecting ideas in unique way
This is the foundation of everything I do—from illustrating children’s books to designing art experiences through Studio Agnew. But imagination alone isn’t enough. The real magic happens when you learn how to use it intentionally.
A Natural Way of Creating
Over time, I started to notice something about the way I create. It isn’t random—and it isn’t forced.
There’s a natural flow to it. A rhythm that moves from idea, to making, to something more
meaningful at the end. It often looks like this:
Imagine
This is where it begins. Before picking up a paintbrush, we pause. We picture. We feel. We step into an idea. Whether it’s a glowing sunset or a story about kindness, imagination becomes the starting point—not an afterthought.
Create
This is where ideas come to life. With guidance, technique, and encouragement, that vision starts to take shape. There’s structure—but also freedom. Because creativity should never feel rigid.
Shine
This is the part most people skip—but it’s often the most meaningful.
We reflect. We share. We celebrate. Because creativity isn’t just about making something—it’s about experiencing it, connecting through it, and leaving with a sense of pride.
Why This Matters
Most art classes focus on the final product. But what really matters is the experience.
It’s about slowing down. Tapping into your imagination. And rediscovering something
many people thought they lost. Because the truth is—you didn’t lose it.
You just haven’t been invited to use it in a while.
A Different Way to Create
This way of creating isn’t just for artists.
It’s for:
Beginners who think they’re “not creative”
Adults who want a moment of calm and joy
Kids who naturally imagine and need space to express it
Anyone looking to reconnect with their creativity
Because imagination isn’t rare. But using it with intention? That’s where something truly special begins.
